Chatoyant College, Chatoyant College Interlude: Summer Break

Chatoyant College Interlude: 9: Edie to Corrie

Hi Corrie,

Yeah, it does seem to be going by faster now that Leah and Jacob are home. I’m sorry if I keep complaining about my summer being slow and boring. I’m sure it’s passing much more quickly for you, but not in a good way!

Leah seems to have gotten over her clinginess from last winter, but she still wants to hang out, which is nice. I’m teaching her to knit. She’s intermittently enthusiastic. It’s like she doesn’t really want to learn to knit, but she thinks it’s the best way to connect with me, so she keeps trying. I’ve suggested a couple of times that we do something else together, like make collages (she likes doing that with her friends), but she insists she wants to learn. So far, all she’s made is a wonky half-rectangle that she ripped out again.

I still have plenty of time for reading, so I’m getting through quite a few books. I think I’ve read every single book that so much as mentions faeries that’s available in the library. I’d done most of that last winter, actually. This summer I’m looking for books about feminism. I’ve found some really interesting stuff and also some really bad stuff.

I’m trying to read at least one book in French a week, too. That’s more work but it’s fun trying to figure things out when the words aren’t ones I just know off the top of my head, or when the sentence structure isn’t obvious. And this way I know my French will still be good in the fall when I go back to classes—I’m taking two French classes fall semester, so I don’t want to fall behind.

Have you heard from Annie at all? Her emails are really short. I guess she’s busy babysitting all summer but she hasn’t told me that much about it.

  1. Hmmm, nice – I hope the bonding will succeed 🙂

Maybe they will find another way to bond, too 😉
