Chatoyant College Book 13: Chapter 88: Working

The noise level in the auditorium rose quickly as the stage lights went down. Everyone else seemed to be hurrying out as quickly as possible while discussing what had just been announced, but Dawn wasn’t ready to get up from her seat just yet—and neither, it seemed, were her friends.

Corrie leaned forward and spoke to Dawn past Edie. “Do you think they’re really going to make it safe?”

“I don’t know,” Dawn said. “If they can find a way to put the magic back the way it was… why wouldn’t they just do that?”

Corrie nodded grimly. “Of course, if they could do that, why haven’t they done it already?”

Chatoyant College Book 13: Chapter 85: The Assembly

Dawn finished her lunch and sat with her friends until they’d finished theirs as well. Then the three of them started meandering toward the auditorium. Dawn went back up to her own room once they’d gotten back to Gilkey, but she didn’t want to stay there. She gathered up her things for homework—she had a few sources she was still taking notes on for her History of Psychology paper, and her sociology class kept assigning homework up until the last class, which was Monday—and took it with her down to Rico’s room. She knocked on the door and he let her in. “Hey, sweetie.” He kissed her on the cheek.

She smiled, fairly certain that Duncan was in the room, because Rico was usually even more demonstrative when they were alone. “Hi. I have some work to do, and I figured we could sit and work together. Make it go faster.”

Chatoyant College Book 12: Chapter 19: Study Date

Dawn was relieved to be finished with her shift at the library. It had been a weird evening, what with the girl asking about Elrath and then him running away from her. It surprised her, now that she thought about it, that she or anyone else had even seen or noticed him. When she and her friends had been looking for him before, he’d had no trouble hiding. What was he doing differently now?

The rest of the shift had gone smoothly, except for the three books she’d found mis-shelved and had to put back on the cart, and the pile of books under one table, some of which were dog-eared or otherwise mistreated—but unfortunately, there was nothing unusual about either of those. She just had to pick them up, get them into the best shape she could, and get them back to where they belonged.
